Fleet Preview: Renault Megane
The Megane E-Tech is back with a new look, a new battery boasting greater efficiency, and a longer range.

Exterior
With its big wheels, low roofline, curvy bonnet and short overhangs, the previous Renault Megane E-Tech stood out against other C-segment hatchback rivals. In fact, we would go as far as to say that its styling was one of its major attractions for buyers.
However, we'd argue that, while looking sleek from the front, the Megane perhaps lacked some visual aggression. Well, that all changes with this new version, as it has been heavily remodelled. Only the headlights are unchanged. The body-coloured section of the bumper is now more prominent, most obviously thanks to the distinctive new vertical DRLs, with their eight diamond-shaped lights arranged in a chequerboard design. These replace the previous air intakes and make the front end look wider.
Also at the front, this Megane gets its own sealed black version of Renault's 'diamond' family grille. Elsewhere, the Megane is slightly taller thanks to its larger battery. There are also matt paint options, such as the 'Blue Satin' finish we saw on the range-topping Esprit Alpine trim. At the rear, there are new 3D-effect light clusters and a sporty diffuser.

Interior
Changes to the interior of the new Renault Megane E-Tech are largely dictated by the revised trim structure, which now consists of Techno and Esprit Alpine specifications.
Choose the entry-level Techno trim and it gets a new textured dashboard finish, power-adjustable seats in either light grey or titanium black, complemented by specific wood or grey-patterned trim on the door panels and dashboard.
The Esprit Alpine trim changes the whole look of the cabin, with its ribbed faux-leather upholstery, contrasting blue stitching and LED ambient lighting creating a sporty and sophisticated feel. It also features driver recognition and a Smart mode, which replaces the previous MySense mode and controls transitions between driving settings,

Powertrains
Apart from the styling and specification revisions, the other big change is a new 67kWh battery, which is combined with a wound-rotor synchronous motor producing 220hp and 300Nm of torque. This is in addition to a standard heat pump and battery preconditioning.
The result is a range of 311 miles, up from 285 miles in the current model. Charging from 10-80% can also be completed in as little as 24 minutes.

Equipment
Full UK specification details have not yet been released, but as we've already mentioned, the Megane will now be available in Techno and Esprit Alpine trims – the latter currently being the fleet-favourite specification on other Renault EVs, such as the Scenic.

Safety
The new Megane maintains a wide range of safety features and driver-assistance systems, while introducing upgrades designed to improve support and protection in a variety of situations. Specifically, Renault has updated the Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Improved Realistic View, Emergency Stop Assist, Predictive Eco Driving Advice, Safety Score, Safety Coach and Safety Monitor systems.
Cost
Official UK pricing for the Renault Megane has not yet been announced, but prices are expected to remain similar to those of the outgoing model when it launches this autumn.
