Aion preview new UT supermini

UT will be the second model from the new Chinese manufacturer.

Martyn Collins

Previewed in our recent interview with Aion Head of Sales, Lee Giddings, the UT is a B-segment electric supermini that Aion claims will offer class-leading space, quality, refinement and premium-level features when it goes on sale in September.

The UT is powered by a 60kWh battery that provides 268 miles of range - the longest standard range in its class - and is capable of charging from 30-80% in just 24 minutes. A powerful 204PS motor delivers punchy acceleration, sprinting from 0-62 mph in just 7.3 seconds, making it one of the nippiest superminis on the market.

Outside, you'll spot the UT by its distinctive face, with 'owl-inspired' headlights, plus the 2x2 'ice cube' indicator and DRL cluster. There are also five exterior colours available.

There is just one trim available and inside, we're told the UT is characterised by its high-quality materials and standard features usually reserved for higher segments. These include the 14.6-inch central touchscreen and 360-degree surround-view camera.

The high specification can be further enhanced with an optional Premium Pack, which includes a panoramic glass roof, power tailgate, ventilated driver's seat and wireless phone charging.

Not only was the UT designed in Europe, but it has also been engineered for UK roads, going beyond the work already undertaken on the Aion V earlier this year. On top of modifications to the springs, dampers, bump-stops and calibration, the UT also gets a revised anti-roll bar.

Just like the V, the UT comes with the industry-leading Aion Great 8 Promise as standard, providing an eight-year warranty, eight years' servicing, eight years' roadside assistance and MOTs until the car is eight years old. This VIN-locked offering stays linked to the vehicle, even when ownership transfers to another driver, ensuring that current and future AION owners benefit from the best aftersales package in the UK.

Speaking about the UT, Jon Wakefield, Managing Director of Aion Auto UK, said: "The Aion UT is a small car that acts big on longer journeys. It's the perfect nippy weekday runaround, with the space and range to comfortably take the family on weekend road trips."
